Massage Services:
SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports can be harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.
SWEDISH MASSAGE
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as gliding, kneading, and percussion. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved circulation, enhanced functioning of the immune system, and greater flexibility.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender "knots" in a muscle that radiate pain in a distribution pattern typical of the specific muscle . These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points. This process can be painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative. As with deep tissue massage, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable.
VIBRATION THERAPY
Vibration Therapy employs tuning forks touched lightly on the skin over the area being treated. The sound waves/vibrations very gently enter the body's tissues and release muscular tension, calm the mind/body and facilitate other techniques used in a massage session. Vibration therapy can be very effective for stubborn areas of tension where it seems the therapist would otherwise use an intense amount of pressure.
MASSAGE CUPPING THERAPY
Massage Cupping Therapy is derived from the cupping used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). When indicated, I incorporate this modality into a massage. After an area (typically the back and shoulders) has been massaged, a special "cup" is placed on the skin and gentle negative pressure (suction) is applied (achieved through a small tool held by the therapist). The cup is then slowly and gently slid over the skin. This brings blood and lymph flow to stagnant soft tissue, drains excess fluids and toxins, and loosens adhesions and tight muscles. This is very effective for stubborn muscle tension and congested tissues.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, jaw pain, and mental stress. Using a very soft touch, the therapist releases restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body's natural healing processes, craniosacral therapy can be used as a preventative health measure to bolster resistance to disease.
VISCERAL MANIPULATION
Visceral Manipulation is based on the specific placement of soft manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. These gentle manipulations can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.
CHAIR MASSAGE
Chair massage is a popular way of relieving stress and releasing tension right in the workplace. Employers use chair massage to enhance employee rewards programs. Studies have shown that a 15 minute massage results in improved employee productivity and increased alertness. I provide chair massages at the workplace and also for special occasions, such as fundraisers and work retreats.
I bring a specialized ergonomic chair and set up a little space where the employees take a short break from their work and receive their massage. Clients remain fully clothed and I work directly over the clothing and do not use oil.
